SPIKE
Spike's Serenade

In my peaceful dreamland of the morning I heard angels singing, calling my name. So peculiar was their song, that Brecht himself would have been proud of the jarring effect it produced, because it shook me out of my slumber.

As I lie awake in my bed, grateful for the lapse of anxiety after hearing my name sung when I was collecting important information for the espionage service that was contracting me (imagine the implications, the other spies now knew my name!) something seemed off.

The dream was over, but the voices weren't, and I was met with more choruses of persistent yet gentle chantings interspersed with giggling. About this time my brain started working. I bolted from my bed to my window and shimmied under the makeshift curtain to be greeted by a handful of aerialists.

Isabella, Sparky, Ziggy/Max, and Em Ae were concerned when I didn't show up for rehearsal at 10 and came to get me. I was the most irresponsible ever, because I didn't realize I had rehearsal. I threw on clothes, washed my teeth and brushed my face(don't ask), and was out the door and in the Camry in seven minutes flat.

The kicker is I've always wanted to be serenaded, though I always imagined it to be under different circumstances. In all honesty the event just supports my theory of being married to my work. Or married to my play.

In other news, we were on the News tonight. I didn't catch it, but I'm sure we rocked Kalamazoo like no other. Actually I think the reporter lucked out since the TV van arrived too late to cover the kid event in the park where we rehearsing. Good thing there was something incredibly visual and exciting going on to film. =^))
