Aerial Angels Internships

The Aerial Angels travel all over the world and perform year-round. We meet fellow performers and experience the excitement of traveling as artists, which opens many doors. In addition to festival tours, we do indoor shows and training camps, as well as outreach and workshops through our Starfish Circus program.

We seek easy-to-get-along-with, self-motivated people, with an interest in street performing and circus work. We are happy to work with your home institution to arrange school credit. Internships can be arranged in your particular area of interest, including performance, teaching/coaching, technical theatre, journalism, film-making and photography.

Duties always include gofer/grunt work, but there is a fair amount of self-directed work and opportunities for creative and skill development in your area. Interns have joined us in the past for trips to Alaska, Canada, and across the USA as well as working on projects in Michigan including office/technical work and physical training.

Internships are assigned based on what events we book for the summer and what the travel situation is. Usually an internship lasts 2-5 weeks. Housing, some meals, and travel from event to event are provided, but you must get to Michigan or the tour start location on your own. There is a small stipend, but you will not be able to save money like a summer job.

We also have an ongoing extern program for short-term positions for Kalamazoo College students; check with the Career Development Office for information about the externship process.

You must be over 18 at time of travel* and have a driver's license. Language skills in French, German and/or Eastern European languages (Croatian, Albanian, Serbian) are a plus.

Interested in applying? Please read Some Thoughts On Becoming an Aerial Angel first. Then, email us with a couple of paragraphs on what you want to learn, why we're the people you want to learn it with, the dates you finish and start school, and attach your resume as a .doc or .rtf (we cannot read .docx). Please also list two references (one from your school, one from somewhere else) with phone numbers.

2011 Internship applications will be accepted until April 15. Summer 2011 interns will be notified in early May, for internships throughout the summer.

*There are some age limit exceptions for interns who have worked with us before in other contexts, but your parents must be 100% on board.
